LGV Licence Training with Traindrive

All You Need To Know About Traindrive’s Different LGV Licence Training Courses

LGV licence Training

LGV licence Training

If you are looking for a large goods vehicle licence, then LGV licence training is what you need to attend to get trained on how to operate these larger machines and to get schooled on the different laws that govern their driving. An LGV is basically any vehicle (truck) that has a gross combination mass of well over 3,500 kgs and Traindrive offers exclusive LGV and HGV training courses that are designed to ensure that you get the best training when it comes to driving these vehicles.

Traindrive, which is an Approved Driver CPC centre, offers LGV/HGV licence training courses which are practical road courses that are offered by an Advanced DSA Driving Instructor. The great thing about approaching Traindrive is that you are assured of getting the best training you can afford. With a high pass rate at low course prices, trainees get the best advice and a unique hands-on experience as the centre offers a trainee to trainer ratio of 1:1. However, if you are looking to have your course cover a longer period, then their 2:1 training ratio would best suit you.

At Traindrive, there are basically two main LGV/HGV training courses that are designed for people looking to become commercial drivers. These are the:

Category C or Class 2 or Rigid License

This course is designed for smaller LGV drivers and is the smallest of Traindrive’s LGV training fleet. For this course, a fully serviced full-sized 18 ton Scania is used. To participate in this training and to get your LGV licence, you will need to:

1. Have a provisional and medical licence.
2. Pass all theory tests.
3. Book for a LGV Licence Training Course with Traindrive.
4. Pass all your practical tests

The great thing is that if you already have passed the CPC module 1 and 2, you can sit for driver training for the 3rd module and Traindrive will give you the CPC module 4 Training free of charge.

Category C+E or Artic or Class 1 Licence

This course is designed for the largest of Traindrive’s LGV training fleet. For the course, Traindrive uses a fully-serviced, full-sized 40 Ton Scania R Series-480 Tri-axle Topline trailer. To participate in this training to obtain your licence, you will need to:

1. Already be a holder of a full-class 2 LGV licence
2. Book your training course
3. Pass all your practical tests

If you are looking for the best LGV licence training in the United Kingdom, then Traindrive is the company to approach.

Government gives ‘Acquired rights’ for truck drivers | Driver shortages

Recent EU Laws in the UK have created a driver shortage

Acquired-rights-for-truck-drivers

Acquired-rights-for-truck-drivers

Thousands of British heavy goods vehicle drivers are retiring as the population ages, Too few newly-qualified replacements are being trained up in the UK to take their place. which is leaving a shortage within the industry and food supply chain.

The government has had to take action to try and get lorry drivers who passed their LGV or C1 before september 2009 and no longer in the industry due to the new laws are given an incentive to come back into the haulage industry and gain their drivers Qualification card just by taking Modules 2 & 4 only.

You could have the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) through ‘acquired rights’ if you’re already a professional lorry, bus or coach driver.

This means that because you’ve already been working as a lorry or bus driver, your experience is counted as the same as taking the Driver CPC initial qualification.

You’ll still need to do 35 hours of periodic training every 5 years to keep your Driver CPC. Call Traindrive 07973 731274 to book your CPC truck driver training or book now using the enquiry form or email us on traindrivelgv@hotmail.com

Who has ‘acquired rights’

You’ll have ‘acquired rights’ if you’re a:

  • lorry driver and got your vocational licence (C, C1, C+E and C1+E) before 10 September 2009
  • bus or coach driver and got your vocational licence (D, D1, D+E and D1+E) before 10 September 2008 – this includes a restricted vocational licence D(101) issued after 1991 and D1(101) issued before 1997 (though you should by now have completed periodic training)

For more information just visit the government website HERE

Towing with a car

If you obtained your driving licence after 1997 and you want to tow a horse box, caravan or large trailer over 750kg you are legally required to obtain a B+E licence.

Towing Rules

The government website offers a great tool where you can find out if you’re old enough or have the right kind of licence to tow a trailer from different kinds of vehicles or simply give us a call with your information and we can help you.

A full car licence already lets you tow trailers weighing no more than 750 kg. You can also tow heavier trailers with a car as long as the total weight of vehicle and trailer isn’t more than 3,500 kg. The fully loaded trailer must also not be heavier than the unladen vehicle (this only applies to licences issued before 19 January 2013).
